What All-on-4 means
All-on-4 is a full-arch treatment concept in which a fixed bridge is supported by four dental implants. It may be considered when most teeth in one jaw are missing, failing or not predictable to restore. The name describes the number of implants, not a promise that four implants are suitable for every person.
Planning begins with medical and dental history, gum assessment, bite analysis and three-dimensional imaging (CBCT). Bone volume, implant positions, smoking, diabetes control, grinding, expectations and the condition of any remaining teeth can all change the recommendation.
Who may be considered
A clinician may discuss All-on-4 with adults who need full-arch rehabilitation and want a fixed alternative to a removable denture. Some patients need extractions, treatment for gum disease, bone grafting or a different number of implants. If the anatomy or bite requires more support, All-on-6 or another design may be more appropriate.
Typical treatment stages
The first stage may include examinations, imaging, digital records, extractions where necessary and implant placement. A temporary bridge may be fitted when primary stability and the clinical situation allow. Healing continues after the patient returns home. The final bridge is usually planned only after the implants and tissues have been reassessed.

Risks, cleaning and long-term maintenance
Full-arch implant treatment involves surgery. Possible complications include infection, bleeding, swelling, altered sensation, implant failure, prosthetic fracture and gum or bone problems. Smoking and poor plaque control can increase risk. Patients need daily cleaning under the bridge, appropriate brushes or water irrigation where advised, and regular professional reviews.
