What laminate veneers are
Laminate veneers are thin restorations bonded to the front surface of selected teeth. They can change shape, proportion and colour, but they are not the right solution for every cosmetic concern. Healthy gums, adequate enamel, stable bite and realistic expectations are important.
Planning with minimal intervention in mind
The least invasive suitable option should be considered first. Whitening, edge bonding or orthodontics may solve some concerns with less preparation. Mock-ups or digital previews can help discuss proportions, but they are planning tools rather than guarantees of an identical result.
Treatment considerations
The dentist assesses enamel, existing restorations, bite, grinding, tooth position and gum symmetry. Some cases can be prepared minimally; others need more reduction to avoid bulky contours. Consent should cover sensitivity, debonding, fracture, colour limitations and future replacement. Material options include E-max veneers.
Care after veneers
Avoid using veneered teeth to open packaging or bite very hard objects. Maintain gum health and interdental cleaning. Patients who clench or grind may be advised to use a protective appliance — see bruxism and restorations.
